Do I Need an Air Conditioning Maintenance Schedule?

Whether you’ve just had a new air conditioning system fitted or you want to get more out of your existing one, an air conditioning maintenance schedule is an important consideration.

If your existing air-con has failed on you when you need it most, then it’s probably already crossed your mind. Or if you’ve recently invested in a new system and want to make sure it’s protected with regular maintenance, as per the manufacturer’s recommendations, then you may want to read on.

Having an air conditioner than isn’t working means hot workplaces, which means unhappy and unproductive employees. If it’s too hot, you may even end up having to send staff home. Air conditioners are also used to keep the workplace sufficiently warm during colder months, so the a broken down unit could have a major impact on your business whatever the time of year.

This may inform the type of air conditioning maintenance schedule you require, so be ready to answer questions about how long your business could realistically cope with the unit not working, and what your employees would do during that time.

It’s important that you fully understand what will be covered in your maintenance schedule, so you know what you can expect and when. Your supplier may offer several different schedules or levels of cover, so pick the one that’s most appropriate for your business’s needs. For instance, any workplace that welcomes customers – such as a hotel or shop – will need the type of cover that involves fixing the air-con immediately, where as a fixing an air conditioner in a rarely used boardroom may be less pressing.

As well as having your air conditioner fixed as and when it breaks down, you may prefer a schedule that involves regular maintenance and servicing to both prevent future problems and ensure it’s working to its maximum capacity. It’s likely to make break downs extremely rare, which will save you money in the long-run.

If your air conditioning system is quite old and hasn’t been serviced regularly, it could be worth considering a contract in the near future. You never know when it might fail on you and, with older systems, you could be looking at a replacement rather than a repair.

When choosing your schedule, it’s important to consider how and when the company you appoint will be coming along to service your machine. Think about the busiest times of the day and week for your company – you’re looking for as little disruption as possible.

If you still need more convincing, then consider how an efficient air conditioning system is good for the environment – which will no doubt be good for any green policies your organisation may have.
