Local HVAC Company Reminds Us It’s Time to Get Our Furnaces Checked

St Louis based HVAC company, St Louis Heating and Cooling, wants to remind everybody in the St Louis and St Charles, MO area that winter is right around the corner and it’s time get our furnaces checked and tuned up.

The last thing that anybody wants to find out when turning on their boiler or furnace for the first time this winter is that it simply does not work. Just like any electrical or mechanical device they break over time, even just sitting there unused all summer long.

The company offers a routine check up on your heating system and will let you know if there are any repairs to be made or if everything is just fine. In most cases, things check out like normal and you might just need a new filter or fan motor.

These repairs can be done later but with everybody turning on their furnaces at the same time, the company usually gets flooded with calls once that first chill of winter hits St Louis.

Local HVAC Company Keeps Expanding

Local St Louis HVAC company, St. Louis Heating and Cooling, keeps broadening it’s reach throughout the St. Louis Metro Region.

A few months back, the company expanded into certain areas of St Charles County, MO like St Charles, St Peters, and Ofallon. They are now growing that coverage area even further to Wentzville, Josephville, Dardenne Prairie, and Wright City.

“We are wanting to become the largest St Louis HVAC company around here”, said owner, Wayne Melancon in a recent interview. He continued, “Business is good, people love our service and prices, and we are getting quite a few ‘word of mouth’ referrals because of our professionalism.”

St Louis Heating and Cooling offers all forms of commercial and residential HVAC work including air conditioning, furnaces, boilers, geothermal, condensers, evaporators, heat pumps, and even duct installations.

The company would also like to remind you that it’s time for your annual furnace or heating system checkup before winter hits. They will come out and inspect your system and notify you of any damages, repairs, or maintenance that needs to be done before turning on your heat for the first time.

In the unfortunate case of costly repairs or the need to replace your unit, this early checkup will give you plenty of time to figure out how to handle it financially. St Louis Heating and Cooling offers financial solutions on an as-need basis also.

HVAC $ Saving Tip from Eric Hoyes, NATE Certified Tech, Climate Control, Portland OR.

Eric Hoyes has been an HVAC service technician at Climate Control for about a year, as of 2014. Visit http://www.climatecontrolinc.com for more info.

Eric loves to fly remote control airplanes & fishing when he is not helping local Portland residents maintain their heating and air conditioning systems.

Eric explains the importance of a regularly scheduled maintenance program for your furnace heaters, air conditioners, heat pumps, and air filtration systems.

Video Transcription:

My name is Eric Hoyes. I’ve been with Climate Control for about 1 year now. I really like working at Climate Control. The people here are what I call human beings; they care about people, not just themselves and not just a dollar. I’ve been in this field for too long, since 1973, I started vocational training in it. I am NATE certified with the National Association of Technical Excellence, and I think that Climate Control is far above any of the other companies because we really take care of our customers, and what you pay for, you get. We’re not just filter flippers here. WE actually go out and look for possible problems.

I have a hobby. I like to fly remote control airplanes and helicopters. I just got a bunch of chickens, so I’m kind of starting to be a farmer here. I just moved to Oregon. Not really a big fisherman, but I just have taken up fishing. Haven’t caught one yet, but I’m really trying hard. And I like being outdoors; I love Oregon life. To me, I always say that I camp where I live and live where I camp. It’s a great place to be. I’ve been here about 2 ½ years now, and I really like it.

A lot of people don’t realize that their equipment can be malfunctioning. Even though it’s still heating or cooling, it’s malfunctioning; it’s not operating as it should be. We go out and look for these problems before it completely breaks down. And the big thing is before it completely breaks down, we can save you a lot of money on repairs. Once something does go wrong, it can take other pieces of equipment out with it. You can lose a compressor, heat exchanger in a heater. Things go wrong, and that 0, 0 bill can easily turn into a ,000, ,000 bill replacing equipment.

This is something that a lot of people don’t realize, and this is the reason that my tip is make sure that you get your equipment maintained on a yearly basis. It’s not just changing the filter; it’s looking for things that are possibly going wrong, that have halfway gone wrong. A lot of times your car tire on your car gets low, you don’t really realize it’s low until you go and have the tires looked at, and then you get back in your car and “Man, this thing really drives good and it stops good.” Same thing with your furnace, air conditioner. We can make it really run well.

Cooling Season Tip and Tricks – Annual air conditioning maintenance

Getting ready to fire up that AC unit for the year? Not so fast! Here are a few money saving tips and tricks to get you started of on the right foot.

There are a few simple steps to follow when getting your home A/C unit ready to fire up for the season. The first thing to check is the outside condenser unit. This tends to get the most wear and tear since it is sitting outside. There are many different types of these units depending on where you live in the country or the world but they all have a few things in common.

1.) Check the electrical disconnect for wasps! They seem to love to get in here and make a nest so early in the year it is a good idea to check this and make sure no nesting has begun. You should also inspect the “Line set” or refrigerant lines connecting from the inside of the home to the outside condenser. The larger one should be well insulated from the outside air so make sure that the insulation has not come off or deteriorated. If so, replace with correct size rubber pipe insulation from your local hardware.

2.) Clean the condenser unit. The easiest way to do this is to use your garden hose. Start at the top and spray down at an angle toward the ground back and forth until you get to the bottom. Repeat this to clean and debris and dust from the fins on all sides.

3.) Moving inside the first thing to do is replace or clean your air filter depending on the type you have. If you are using the cheap ones like I have in our home you need to change the twice per season or four times per year. This is important! If you do not change the filter you are lower the efficiency of the unit and costing yourself more money!

4.) Turn off your humidifier if you have one. This usually requires doing two things. If your model has an air flow bypass there should be a damper that needs to be turned off. You also need to turn the humidistat off, usually setting to 0 or in OFF position. This prevents water from just running through to the drain all season long.

5.) The last thing that I normally do is balance the air flow to the house. This isn’t as complicated as it might sound and just requires a bit of forethought and knowing where the dampers are located. Each air vent in your home will have a corresponding 6″ pipe coming off of the main “truck” line duct. Each one of these should have a damper located near the trunk line. It is best to figure out where each one of these leads and then label them to make this process easier each year. For the cooling season you want to force most of the air to the upper floors of your home so it is best to close all dampers and registers that feed air to the basement. I also close off the ones leading to our bathrooms as I don’t see the need to cool these tiny rooms where you don’t spend much time (hopefully). I also reduce the air flow to about 50% to all of my 1st floor registers and then make sure all of the second floor are full open. Now if you only have one floor just make sure the 1st floor is all open and the basement is all closed. If you have trouble with humidity in the basement you can leave one or two vents open down there to keep the moisture down.

If you follow these simple steps each year when you fire up that A/C unit you will be on the way to a much cooler and cheaper cooling season! It is also a great idea to raise the thermostat temp during the day or when you are not at home and then lower it at night or when you need the cooling the most. This can make a huge difference in your bill!.
